The war in Ukraine, which started on February 24, 2022 has changed life of all Ukrainians, especially those most affected by HIV and TB. The country is suffering a humanitarian disaster, with health systems collapsing and life saving treatment and prevention services interrupted.
Ukraine has the second largest population of people living with HIV, people with tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) has already called this the biggest crises to the HIV response in Europe in history.
An estimated 250 000 people (nearly 1% of country population, about half of them are women) are currently living with HIV there. With hostilities taking place across the country, many vulnerable groups – young women, children with HIV, people who use drugs, gay, lesbian and transgender people, sex workers, people recently released from prison – are facing urgent needs to support their daily life and access essential health and psychological social support services.
In view of this, AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW-Ukraine) – international charitable foundation legally registered and operating in Ukraine for more than 20 years, is seeking funds to cover urgent needs of vulnerable groups in all Ukrainian regions, as well as of refugees from war zone in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries of Eastern Europe, especially those who belong to HIV-risk groups. AFEW Ukraine is also a part of larger international partnership operating in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. We daily collect information on the needs and can immediately support those in need together with you.
We will regularly report about the use of funds received from you and on behalf of all Ukrainians thank you for your support. No staff or administrative costs are charged to the funds received as personal donations.
