{"id":2068,"date":"2015-06-26T08:24:26","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T08:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/afew.org.ua\/?p=2068"},"modified":"2015-06-26T10:11:59","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T10:11:59","slug":"addiction-is-not-a-crime-the-new-national-advocacy-campaign-launches-in-georgia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afew.org.ua\/en\/addiction-is-not-a-crime-the-new-national-advocacy-campaign-launches-in-georgia\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Addiction is not a crime!&#8221; \u2013 The new national advocacy campaign launches in Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, June 26 (<strong>International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking<\/strong>), non-governmental organization\u00a0\u201cWorld of Tolerance\u201d\u00a0in partnership with\u00a0Bemoni Public Union,\u00a0Tanadgoma \u2013 Center for Information and Counseling on Reproductive Health\u00a0and ICF\u00a0\u201cAIDS Foundation East-West&#8221; (<em>AFEW-Ukraine<\/em>), under financial support of the\u00a0Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands,\u00a0in the framework of the\u00a0project \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/afew.org.ua\/en\/project\/bridging-the-gaps-health-and-rights-for-key-populations-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bridging The Gaps: Health and Rights for Key Populations<\/a>\u201d,\u00a0launches national\u00a0advocacy campaign <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nofear.ge\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Addiction is not a crime!&#8221;<\/a><\/span> <\/strong>aimed at ensuring human rights of drug users.<\/p>\n<p>Drug problem concerns almost all populations of the society. Drug users are perceived \u00a0as criminals, but punishment doesn\u2019t give any results &#8211; persons released from prison can\u2019t be immediately freed from addiction. These persons are in need of treatment and support. At the same time, it appears that majority of the general population do not \u00a0have sufficient information about these people, their needs and challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The key message of the campaign is that people must not be punished because of their addiction.
