The data indicates that the prevalence of chronic Hepatitis C (HCV) infection among the surveyed population in 2022 was 2.12%. <sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalhep.org\/data-profiles\/countries\/moldova-republic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center; width: 25.6827%; height: 483px;\" width=\"108\">The total number of HIV cases registered by 31.12.2020 amounts at 13,706, of these persons 9,407 are alive and know their status. During the reporting period AIDS was confirmed in 286 cases, including 45 cases on the Left Border (in 2018 \u2013 364 and 72, respectively). Of these, in 168 cases (58.74%) AIDS disease was confirmed in persons diagnosed with HIV in 2019.<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnms.md\/sites\/default\/files\/Monitorizarea%20controlului%20infec%C5%A3iei%20HIV%20%C3%AEn%20Republica%20Moldova%2C%20anul%202014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center; width: 23.1769%; height: 483px;\" width=\"108\">HIV prevalence in general population is 0.3% (0.24% for the left border and 0.62% for the right one).<br \/>\nThe Republic of Moldova is one of 30 countries with high burden of MDR-TB.\u00a0 In 2019, estimated incidence rate for TB was 80 per 100 000 population and the mortality rate was 6.3 per 100,000 population [1]. In 2019, 2,809 TB cases were notified. It is also estimated that 33% of new cases and 60% of previously treated cases were MDR\/RR-TB.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/treattb.org\/trial-sites\/moldova\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center; width: 45.46%; height: 483px;\" width=\"96\">\n<div class=\"flex-shrink-0 flex flex-col relative items-end\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"pt-0\">\n<div class=\"gizmo-bot-avatar flex h-8 w-8 items-center justify-center overflow-hidden rounded-full\">\n<div class=\"relative p-1 rounded-sm flex items-center justify-center bg-token-main-surface-primary text-token-text-primary h-8 w-8\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">In 2022, 929 new cases of HIV were registered among residents of Moldova. The total number of people living with HIV, according to UNAIDS estimates, exceeded 16,000, while only 10,000 were officially registered in the healthcare system.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">)<\/span><sup style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unaids.org\/en\/regionscountries\/countries\/republicofmoldova\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4<\/a><\/sup><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h4>HIV situation<\/h4>\n<p>In Moldova, the HIV epidemic remains concentrated in key populations, including people who inject drugs (PWID), sex workers (SW), and men who have sex with men (MSM). The estimated HIV prevalence is about 0.3% in the general population, but it is much higher within these groups. Over recent years, transmission trends have shifted, with an increase in cases resulting from sexual transmission rather than injection drug use alone. This change reflects an evolution from an early concentrated epidemic to a more advanced concentrated epidemic where transmission is occurring from key populations to their sexual partners.<\/p>\n<p>Regions like Chisinau and Balti, Moldova\u2019s most affected cities, have implemented enhanced HIV response efforts since joining the Paris Declaration in 2019. Despite these efforts, access to testing, treatment, and harm reduction services still faces barriers, especially in the Transnistrian region.
